General Poetry Submissions
Bass Clef Books reads year round. BCB invites poets from all genres to submit. We pride ourselves by encouraging divergent voices and styles--but BCB enjoys the best representation of traditional form as well.
Bass Clef Books does not judge manuscripts by the number of publication notches. Rather, we wish to select the manuscript that elicits the best aesthetic response.
Poets may expect responses to manuscripts within three-four months. However, we may have to shut down for periods due to backlog.
Poets should send no more than 30 pages. Manuscripts must be submitted in a Word file, Courier or Times New Roman, 12 point font. Please include a cover page with the author's contact information, biography and list of acknowledgements for pieces previously published.
We ask that the manuscript does not include multiple tabulation or other fancy inserts/images. Doing so, impedes prompt publication.
Poets should not submit multiple manuscripts at one time--wait until you hear from us before sending another book. BCB hopes to respond in three (3) months depending on the volume of submissions.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed; reading fees will not be refunded. Please notify us ASAP if you have placed your book elsewhere.
Publisher will pay 12 copies of the selected work upon publication.
Publisher will pay a royalty of ten per cent (10%) of the publisher’s net sales of the work.
Selected manuscripts will be published in a 5.5 X 8.5 inch format.
Each book will have an individual ISBN and be registered with the Library of Congress.
Bass Clef Books wants to encourage those unable to pay an exorbitant fee for us to read their work. As such, a reading fee of only $12 is required.
Bass Clef Books may consider individual poem(s) from each submitted manuscript to be included in an anthology series which will be published at certain intervals. Publication of these poems may take up to one year.
Bass Clef Books retains North American First Serial Rights and reserves the right to use part of all publications to promote this press and its authors.
